Bullying: Types, Effects and Government Initiatives.
Bullying is repetitive aggressive behaviour with an imbalance of power. Research, especially on school bullying, has increased massively in the last decade, fuelled in part by the rise of cyberbullying. Prevalence rates vary greatly. This is in part because of measurement issues, but some persons, and groups, are more at risk of involvement.
Racism is where someone thinks you’re inferior because of your colour, ethnicity, nationality or race. This can result in them treating you differently or unfairly, this is called racial discrimination. Racial bullying is a type of racism where someone’s bullying focuses on your race, ethnicity or culture.
Bullying is most common in middle school, with 6th graders on the receiving end the most and 8th graders handing out the most bullying. In a study of 15,686 students in 6th through 10th grade in private and public schools, it was found that 13-23% of boys and 4-11% of girls experience some sort of bullying.
Types of bullying Bullying is usually described by the types of behaviours involved, so we talk about verbal, social and physical bullying. Bullying is sometimes also labelled by where it occurs or by what type of harm is done. These words can be used alone or in combination. It can be confusing!
Secondly, in order to go in an in-depth analysis of sexual harassment in the workplace, we will see the types of sexual harassment that normally prevails. The research is designed to further analyse the problematic repercussions on the victims as sexual harassment entails a negative psychic, work and health outcomes.
Arguably one of the most damaging types of bullying, indirect bullying is when one person, or group of people, undermines or tries to ruin your reputation by spreading rumors and gossiping behind your back. This form of bullying is most prevalent among girls, so much so, that it is possibly the precursor to girl-to-girl bullying.
